Job: Communications Manager (Senior Writer)

As our Communications Manager, you’ll help Clean Prosperity spread the word about effective pathways to achieving Canada’s climate targets.

Clean Prosperity is a Canadian climate policy organization that advocates for pragmatic solutions to reduce emissions and grow the economy.

The role

You’ll be using your ingenuity, determination, and exceptional writing skills every day to help us craft the public communications that will be instrumental in achieving our policy objectives.

That includes attention-grabbing tweets, compelling op-eds in national media, dynamic presentation decks for decision-makers, and major research reports that change how people think about climate policy.

You will need to be a great storyteller who can turn technical topics into narratives that are engaging and persuasive.

This role reports to the Communications Director.

Your work will include: 

  • Distilling complex information into a wide range of content, from op-eds to press releases to presentation decks
  • Compiling our media digest, drafting our newsletter, managing our social media, and updating our website
  • Supporting our policy research, including writing and editing reports, and helping with layout and design
  • Pitching Clean Prosperity’s policy messages to journalists
  • Developing and managing communications strategies and plans
  • Keeping our communications work organized, and coordinating external service providers
  • Occasionally, support tasks like planning events, producing webinars, and drafting fundraising applications

Skills and experience needed

We encourage you to apply if you meet most, but not necessarily all, of the following criteria:

  • Minimum of five years of relevant professional work experience
  • Demonstrated high level of comfort with at least three of the following five fields: climate, energy, economics, business and finance, politics and government
  • The ability to assimilate complicated ideas and explain them to others in an accessible, compelling way
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, especially the ability to communicate clearly, succinctly, and persuasively
  • Great social media skills, especially on X and LinkedIn
  • Undergraduate degree or higher
  • Desirable: experience designing presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Slides or similar
  • Desirable: experience in graphic design and web content development

Location, hours, and culture

We are a virtual team — you are welcome to work anywhere in Canada. You will have a home office budget to ensure that you have a comfortable and effective setup.

We keep standard working hours, but are much more concerned about results than about how you organize your time. We are a family-friendly organization: staff have flexibility in how they schedule their working hours.

Even though we’re virtual, you will interact regularly with the team. We hold weekly staff meetings, virtual happy hours, and two in-person staff retreats per year.

Compensation and benefits

Salary range for this position is $85,000–$100,000 per year, commensurate with experience. We also offer:

  • Four weeks paid vacation annually
  • Health insurance (including dental and vision)
  • Home office budget
